The Big Easy

The Big Easy

Confession: I have no idea what that means. What is easy…in this context? After a quick, low-quality hotel breakfast I drove the final 30 miles toward New Orleans. About halfway there, as I approached Lake Ponchartrain, light rain began to fall. As I stopped to fill up my rental car’s gas tank, the rain got … Continue reading

An Unexpected Delight in The Magic City

An Unexpected Delight in The Magic City

In case you didn’t know, and I’m assuming you didn’t, Birmingham, Alabama’s nickname is The Magic City. And I’ll get right to the punchline. Birmingham was fabulous! Fabulous, meaning a place I could live, and you may know I have a very short list of livable US cities not on the west coast. Not just … Continue reading

Road-Trippin’ the Gulf

Road-Trippin’ the Gulf

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Time to stop writing 2014 on your paperwork. It’s 24 degrees here in Portland, Oregon and I’m indoors watching the Rose Parade in unseasonably-cold Southern California. I’m not into making resolutions but I am going to use today as a benchmark as I refocus and strengthen my resolve toward a few personal growth and wellness … Continue reading

A Mistake by the Lake

A Mistake by the Lake

Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer – students show up at school tomorrow, and I’ve so excited to be back in a high school. This last week brought days of in-services, meeting my new fellow teachers, and planning for the first few days of school. Among some of my friends, Labor Day weekend … Continue reading

Finally, I have some photos of the one day I spent in central Oregon. Six-plus hours driving and about that, hiking. The two main stops on this journey were The Painted Hills and Smith Rock State Park. And then on to Smith Rock State Park, a rock climbing mecca just outside Bend,Oregon.
